Experienced financial and blockchain journalist Oluwaseun (Craig) Adeyanju has launched Mariblock, a digital publication that provides original and in-depth coverage of the African blockchain and digital assets space.
Adeyanju’s byline has appeared in some of the world’s leading publications, including Forbes, Investopedia, Motley Fool, TheStreet and Cointelegraph — to name a few.
Why Mariblock?
Africa is one of the fastest-growing regions for cryptocurrency adoption, which is neither by chance nor an anomaly. The average African had been mostly excluded from or underserved by the internet-enabled global financial system. For instance, Sub-Saharan Africa is the perennial highest-cost region to send remittances. The traditional financial system has struggled to fix this problem. But cryptocurrency, thanks to its borderless nature, brings Africa up to speed with the rest of the world.
Still, extensive coverage of the blockchain-powered innovations happening on the continent is missing — and there are several of them. Most of the high-profile stories about Africa are fundraising announcements.
Propagating the African narrative
In addition, much of the crypto space is driven by Western narratives and is unrelatable to many Africans. Adeyanju launched Mariblock to help propagate the African narrative for blockchain and digital assets. There are peculiar problems on the continent that blockchain is primed to solve. The Western media simply is not incentivized to cover these topics at length.
Having an African-native blockchain publication would help spotlight these stories and facilitate equitable adoption.
“Blockchain and cryptocurrency aren’t merely good-to-have innovations in Africa; they are a match made for one another,” said Adeyanju. “I have seen many mind-blowing blockchain-powered projects around the continent, but the rest of the world is not paying attention. That is why we are building Mariblock to illuminate these opportunities.
“There’s also the issue of regulators not understanding the space well enough to introduce progressive rules. We believe well-curated information can help bridge the gap, and Mariblock is uniquely positioned to do just that.”
Adeyanju will leverage his 12 years of writing and journalism experience to make Mariblock the go-to source of in-depth coverage and analysis of the African blockchain and digital assets space.
